Skiing, the longest tobaggan run & other winter activities

Neukirchen is located in the middle of the biggest nature conservation area in Central Europe – right in the middle of the Hohe Tauern National Park. This alone says so much about the region around the Wildkogel ski area. With us you get to enjoy the harmonious beauty of the deep snow-covered mountains and woodlands. Take a deep breath and feel the power of clear mountain during activities in the natural surroundings. The valley station for the Wildkogelbahn is virtually on our doorstep and all you need to do is hop aboard the 6-seater cable car and be whisked up to 2100 m.

Winter with us…

Get a feel for how unique winter is in Neukirchen am Großvenediger with all your senses. The region provides a wonderful place to stay for every holiday aspiration. Skiing, carving, snowboarding, cross-country skiing, or heading out on a snow-shoe hike with a National Park ranger.

The range of activities for your exciting stay in the winter ranges from classic Alpine skiing to tobogganing and snow-shoe hiking and horse-drawn carriage rides and ice skating. And if your children want to learn how to ski – then they are in great hands in Neukirchen ski school. In Kogel Mogel Kinderland on the Wildkogel learning to ski is fun.

A special highlight for winter is the ‘longest natural toboggan run in the world‚ which is floodlit and spans 14 km heading from the Wildkogel into the valley.

The latest information about weather on the mountain can be seen here – the live webcams on the Wildkogel ensure you are always kept up-to-date.

Skiing –
head to the piste

The Wildkogel Arena is available for winter sports fans, with 65 km of excellently prepared pistes – in all categories, from blue (easy) to black (difficult). 85 % of the pistes on the Wildkogel are red or blue. The gentle slopes are ideal for beginners and those getting back into the swing of things! The snow-assured ‘bowl’, as the Wildkogel arena is often called, is easily manageable and people meet all the time here! For performance-oriented skiers, the valley runs to Neukirchen and Bramberg at 1300 metres altitude are ideal! For little ones, Neukirchen ski school offers ski course and in Kogel Mogel Kinderland learning to ski is so much fun. The piste map for the Wildkogel Arena can be seen here.

For skiing fun cubed, there are the FANTASTIC ski areas directly adjoining the Wildkogel Arena, the skiing areas in Kitzbühel and Zillertal Arena.

Ski passes for your winter holiday are available directly from us at Reception!

Tobagganing on the longest, floodlit toboggan run in the worls

Tobogganing is fun, tobogganing on the longest floodlit toboggan run in the world (14 Km!) is twice as much fun! And of course a time-honoured refreshment stop in the traditional inns is part and parcel of tobogganing!

Neukirchen’s Wildkogelbahn and Bramberg’s Smaragdbahn transport you up into the lofty heights in comfort with your sleds, toboggan or bobsleigh – whatever takes your fancy.

Then it’s downhill! Over 14 kilometres you head fast, not so fast or even just sedately into the valley and tackle an altitude difference of some 1300m. The toboggan run is floodlit daily until 10.00 p.m.! Nine times out of ten the ascent is available until 4.15 p.m.

Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays enjoy extended ascent hours:
Tuesdays and Fridays: via the Smaragdbahn to Bramberg
Saturdays: Via the Wildkogelbahn to Neukirchen
On these days the ascent is available until 6.30 p.m. (please note that this is subject to appropriate weather conditions).
